2024 interior design trends for the cosy season

by Mitchells

With the seasons changing also comes the want to update our home’s interior. When the weather gets colder, we want the inside of our home to feel as warm and inviting as possible.

With an emphasis on this season’s focus on natural materials, sustainability and creating a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere, we’ve compiled some of our favourite AW24 interior design trends that are perfect for this cosy season.

Retro
resurgence

This autumn, we are seeing a big resurgence in 70s-inspired aesthetics and retro interior design. Bold geometric patterns, rich earthy tones and rattan furniture blend the past with the present, creating a fresh yet timeless atmosphere. Add some vintage pieces, like a statement sofa, retro lighting or a patterned rug, to create a sense of nostalgia with a trendy modern twist.

Pumpkin spice
palette

The colder seasons are filled with the sweet scents and spices of pumpkin, nutmeg and cinnamon. Why not add a bit of this spice to your home with a rich colour palette? Deep oranges, burnt mustards and bold terracottas add the perfect blend of warmth, creating an inviting atmosphere that feels in tune with the season. These bold shades will also contrast well with shades of browns and beiges, as well as natural materials like wood and rattan.

Bring nature
indoors

Incorporate natural earthy tones and textures into your home to create a rustic and homely feel, with natural materials like wood, stone and wool being top of the trends this autumn. These textures evoke a sense of being outdoors, with also a nod towards the growing trend of sustainable and eco-friendly design. Think organic cotton cushions, patterned throws and recycled rugs to add an emphasis on all things natural.

Cosy
corners

As the weather gets colder, we all want our home to feel as warm and cosy as possible. Define a relaxation zone by layering chunky knit blankets, soft cushions and snug throws to create the ultimate spot to unwind and relax. Mix in a range of different textures and warm autumnal colours with a statement Persian rug to create the perfect spot to read a book and enjoy a hot cup of tea.

Soft and warm
lighting

Lighting is a crucial feature when setting the mood for your home. Focus on soft and warm lighting that enhances the overall ambiance of the room. Think statement floor lamps, vintage desk lamps and dimmable lights that will highlight the room’s features. Add an array of candles for an additional warmth, with the fire’s glow accentuating the colours and textures in your home. The soft lighting and flickering flames create the perfect relaxing and inviting atmosphere.
