As we move into spring and the weather starts to (finally!) get warmer, what’s a better way to mark the beginning of a new season with a spring clean?
Spring cleaning is a great way to refresh your home and boost your mood and productivity. With that said, it can also be seen as an incredibly overwhelming task. We’ve put together some of the dos and don’ts of spring cleaning to make your transition into the new season as productive as possible!
A good way to start your spring clean is by initially identifying what needs doing and in what order of priority. Decide which spaces need the most attention, and whether they need a simple rearranging or require further action. Once you’ve done this, make a list of what needs doing and begin to break it down into small manageable tasks. This way, you can chip away at it each day and tackle each room effectively.
It’s easy to get carried away when starting a big clean and can quickly lead to it feeling like a bigger job than you can handle. To avoid this, start with one room or a small area, and prioritise the spaces that you use the most or require the most attention. Focus on what is achievable and don’t set yourself unrealistic jobs. This way, the process stays manageable!
Take this opportunity to finally declutter and reorganise your belongings. Decluttering is much more than just getting rid of things; it’s an act of self-care and helping you take back control of your home!
Go through your items and consider whether they are needed, if they are deemed outdated or no longer needed, donate them to charity or consider reselling them on local marketplace outlets (Vinted, Facebook Marketplace, etc.)
Cleaning supplies are a vital for giving your home a new lease of life. Once you’ve decluttered and have began organising, it’s time to give your home a good scrub. It’s always a good idea to keep your cleaning supplies topped up so you can keep up with general cleaning around the house. Take the time to restock products such as:
- Antibacterial wipes and sprays
- Rubber gloves and sponges
- Microfibre cloths
- A reliable glass or window cleaner
- Surface cleaner and wipes (especially if you have kids!)
Taking your time and being thorough is the best way to tackle your spring cleaning. Be sure to get those hard-to-reach places and not to overlook spots that may get missed in your routine cleaning. The more effort you put in now, the cleaner and fresher your home will be for the rest of the year!
It’s easy to focus all our attention on the bigger tasks of spring cleaning (carpets, floors, windows, etc.), so make sure not to forget the little things. This includes cleaning light switches, dusting off shelves, wiping down skirting boards, and deadheading houseplants. They may seem like unimportant tasks, but make all the difference!
